Your pet's Fi tracker can connect to a known Wi-Fi network when it's out of range of the Fi app or Fi Base. When the tracker connects to Wi-Fi, it reports the location linked to that network. This helps avoid unnecessary GPS or LTE-M activation, which conserves battery life.
Testing your Wi-Fi coverage shows you where on your property your pet can roam while staying connected.
Steps for Testing Your Wi-Fi Coverage in Your Home
What you will need: Your pet's Fi tracker and a phone with the Fi app
Total time: 15 minutes
To test your Wi-Fi coverage:
- If you have a Fi Series 2, Series 3, or Series 3+, unplug your Fi Base so the tracker can connect to Wi-Fi.
- Remove your pet's collar with the Fi tracker still attached.
- Place the collar in a room your pet visits often.
- Walk away from the tracker with your phone. This lets the tracker connect to Wi-Fi instead of to your phone through Bluetooth.
- Wait 2 to 3 minutes, then check the tracker's connection status:
- Open the Fi app.
-
Tap the Live tab:
-
Tap your pet's profile picture in the Live Card:
-
On the Live Map, tap your pet's photo to show the current connection status:
